Experience one of Taiwan's most celebrated traditions at the once-a-year Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival in the historic mountain town of Shifen. Before the evening festivities begin, guests will explore the charming railway village of Shifen, strolling along the vibrant Shifen Old Street — a lively strip lined with street food stalls, souvenir shops, and local vendors. Sample beloved Taiwanese street snacks including peanut brittle ice cream rolls, grilled sausages, and sticky rice-stuffed chicken wings, or pick up handcrafted keepsakes and sky lantern-themed souvenirs to bring home (at own expense). As night falls, guests gather alongside travelers from Taiwan and around the world to release glowing lanterns into the sky, each carrying wishes of hope and good fortune for the year ahead. Recognized by international media including CNN Travel, Travel + Leisure, and National Geographic, this enchanting celebration is often listed among the world's most breathtaking cultural festivals and is considered a true bucket-list experience in Taiwan.
Please note: This tour involves extended periods of standing and walking. No seating is available at the festival venue. Guests should be prepared to stand or walk for approximately two hours and are advised to wear comfortable footwear. Most local shops and snack vendors in Shihfen accept cash payment only in local currency (New Taiwan Dollar). Guests are recommended to prepare sufficient cash for personal purchases. Due to the popular event, expect crowding and traffic can be unpredictable; your patience is greatly appreciated if a delay extends the tour duration.
