A full-day adventure awaits when you board a motorcoach and set off to discover the highlights of both Irabu Island and the Miyakojima City Traditional Crafts Center.
You'll cross the Irabu Bridge – the longest toll-free bridge in Japan, spanning 4,310 meters.
Once on Irabu Island, proceed to the Irabuohashi Bridge Seaside Station for views from the observatory. You can also purchase local food and souvenirs here.
Continue to Toriike Pond — a designated Okinawa Natural Monument created by two saltwater ponds.
Then, head to Maehama Beach. Stretching out for 4½ miles, this is one of Japan's favorite beaches, and the contrast of the white sand and the emerald-green water is truly beautiful.
Move on to Maipari Miyakojima Island Tropical Fruit Park. Here, enjoy a very special interaction with Miyako horses and get to know them. These magnificent, pint-size animals, known for their gentle dispositions, are an essential part of life on Miyako Island. As their population has seriously dwindled, a Miyako horse Preservation Society is working diligently to save them. Watch as sugar cane is squeezed by the Miyako horse.
Shop at the Miyakojima City Traditional Crafts Center, where you will learn about traditional high-quality hemp cloth called Miyakojima jofu before you transfer back to the pier.
Please note: Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces. Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. The weaver does not offer demonstrations on Sundays at the Miyakojima Traditional Crafts Center. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring local currency, as most vendors do not accept US dollars or credit cards. Weather and atmospheric conditions vary; no guarantee is offered with regard to visibility or views on any particular day. Tour sequence may vary. Unfamiliar accents can be challenging; feel free to ask your guide to repeat or elaborate on information, and to speak more slowly so you can fully comprehend and converse.
