Discover a wonderful day trip to explore the historic world of Japanese wine and food.
Your journey starts at the port and takes you to the Katashimo Winery in Osaka, the oldest existing winery in western Japan.
About 1,300 years ago, a great temple with a giant Buddha statue stood where the winery is today. An ancient roof ornament found on the site had a grape design, suggesting the possibility that grapes traveled along the Silk Road together with Buddhism to reach this land.
In this historic place over 100 years ago, the founders started creating vineyards on the local hillsides. Since they did not know European winemaking methods, they worked with traditional Japanese sake brewers. By applying techniques used for making sake, miso, and vinegar, they created their own unique brewing style. Today, the winery still follows its original philosophy: "To craft high-quality wine that perfectly suits the Japanese palate." This is a truly unique wine that you can only experience right here in Osaka.
On this tour, a local guide will explain the history of the winery, so you can fully appreciate the experience even if you are not familiar with wine. You will learn about grape growing, wine making, and the rich local heritage. Explore the oldest winery in western Japan, which is usually closed to the public.
Also, the tour continues to a peaceful walk through the beautiful hillside vineyards and the traditional streets of the historic Taiheiji neighborhood.
For lunch, you will savor a special lunch box made by local chefs who know Katashimo Winery inside out. Have your meal paired with a tasting of 5 different types of authentic Japanese wine.
Finally, relax as we take you comfortably and safely back to the port.
Please note:
This tour operates rain or shine, as this will guide you through hillside vineyards and historic streets. Please wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes such as sneakers. Sandals, high heels, and other loose footwear are strictly not permitted.
Please bring your own beverages to stay hydrated during the tour.
The winery is located in a traditional Japanese house built around 140 years ago and has many steps and uneven surfaces throughout the property.
For safety reasons, wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers cannot be accommodated.
Minors under 20 years of age are not permitted to participate in the tour alone.
During the wine tasting and lunch session, you will be asked to take off your shoes.

Passengers with wheelchairs are reminded that a few steps are required to board the coach and that wheelchairs will be stored in the boot of the coach (fold-up wheelchair). The coach cannot accommodate electric scooter. Unfamiliar accents can be challenging; feel free to ask your guide to repeat or elaborate on information, and to speak more slowly so you can fully comprehend and converse.
