Explore Auckland’s countryside, where art meets winemaking and gastronomy that will thrill your senses.
You’re headed to Matakana -- a small village north of Auckland. Settled in the 1840s, Matakana has a proud history and a strong sense of community. It is home to more than 30 boutique vineyards, olive groves, restaurants and a Sunday Farmers’ Market.
Visit the Brick Bay sustainably-accredited vineyard flanked by native bush and featuring a fascinating sculpture trail. Fifty large-scale sculptures are set in a sublime landscape of towering native trees, majestic palms, a precious kauri forest, and lakes -- all alive with native birdlife.
Enjoy a shared lunch platter with wine tasting at the Glass House café cantilevered over a shimmering lake. The freshest seasonal cuisine is inspired by on-site farm produce, orchards and gardens.
Heron’s Flight Winery is a small family-owned and -operated vineyard focused on planting Italian grapes that capture the essence, romance and simplicity of the Mediterranean in a strikingly similar climate. Enjoy wine tasting of the Dolcetto red, Rosato and Volare Sangiovese while learning about Matakana wine and the Italian grapes variety.
Head back to the pier in Auckland afterward.
