Head to Hawke's Bay's iconic Te Mata Peak for sweeping views of lush vineyards, rolling hills, and the dramatic coastline. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a casual explorer, there are plenty of rest stops to enjoy the scenery and nature around you.
As you ascend via one of Te Mata Peak's varied trails, you'll pass through an ancient redwood grove and classic farmland and encounter abundant native birdlife. From the summit, take in the sweeping 360-degree views.
Descend to a local Hawke's Bay winery. Here, a well-deserved wine tasting features some of the region's finest vintages. Raise a glass to the landscape and to your group for completing a wonderful day out in Hawke's Bay.
Please note:
Tour requires walking approximately 3.1 miles (5 km) on an approximately 90-minute hike. Terrain includes tracks that are well-formed with undulating terrain, with some steep inclines and drop-offs in certain spots. Care and attention are required. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking, as the walk is uphill, over unpaved walking tracks. Wear comfortable activewear. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
