This haunting yet insightful guided tour brings to life the experience of Port Arthur in the 1800s. Here you’ll have an exclusive walking experience, where your guide will narrate the harsh realities of Australia’s colonial history.
An experiment in punishment and reform, Port Arthur was purposely designed to change a man. Walking through the buildings left behind, you will hear how convicts were made to work, building the prison walls around them, and how they were rewarded. The rules were extensive and the punishments severe.
On the other side of the bars, you will gain insight into the lives of military officers and the commandant charged with keeping order in this remote and desolate place.
