First, enjoy a walking tour through Old San Juan with a focus on architecture, history, legends and some time for shopping. This Spanish colonial city that is more than 500 years old is a shopper's delight.
Walking builds up an appetite, so next you'll discover the magic of the cocina criolla (Creole kitchen) and spice up your day with a fun and lighthearted culinary experience. The chef greets you and offers you a delicious, cold Mojito beverage and a tasty appetizer. Then, (s)he will provide you with instructions and all the fixings to plate your own mofongo lunch — a must-try dish for first-time visitors wanting to sample the local fare. It is a delightful mash of fried green plantains (or cassava or breadfruit) and chicken broth into which chicken and vegetables are added. Savor every bite — you're halfway to becoming an honorary Puerto Rican when you put the finishing touches on your mofongo.
Please note: The Creole kitchen portion of the tour is not an interactive cooking class; your involvement in the food preparation is only the actual plating of your own mofongo. A piña colada beverage may be substituted for the mojito if mint is unavailable to make the mojito. Minimum age is 10 years. Tour requires approximately two hours of walking in Old San Juan. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, and many steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour does not operate on Fridays.
