Travel back to the prehistoric age at Nuraghe Palmavera. En route, you'll pass macchia-covered slopes with low vegetation, cork oak groves, and the rugged beauty of Sardinia's famed Rivera del Corallo, named after the coast's vivid red coral cliffs. Take photos at the Capo Caccia viewpoint. With a lighthouse at its tip, the Cape's headland offers dramatic views of the Gulf of Porto Conte and the Alghero coastline. Below lie the famed Grottos of Neptune.
At Nuraghe Palmavera, mysterious towers and huts dating back to an ancient Stone Age culture are believed to have been built during the second millennium BC. The surrounding village was built in several phases and includes ruins from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.
Heading south, you'll take a guided walk through Alghero's Old Quarter and visit the medieval Church of San Francesco. This Romanesque church from the 14th century features a pink stone façade.
You'll have time on your own to shop in Alghero afterward.
Please note: Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
