Clinging to the Ligurian cliffs on the west coast of Italy, five lovely towns are spaced evenly along the water — Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Today, you will see the Five Lands from the sea and on land.
Depart from the pier by public ferry, heading northward. You will marvel at an apparent defiance of gravity, as most of the villages look as if they are suspended precariously above the sea. Pastel-colored houses, terraced vineyards and groves alive with the aroma of olive trees blend with fresh ocean breezes to create a truly magical atmosphere.
Arriving at the village of Vernazza, disembark the vessel and begin a guided walking tour of this 1st-century town. The richness of the architecture here denotes a historically higher standard of living than that of the other villages. Free time (about 30 minutes) is afforded to browse in the local shops or relax in a café (at your own expense).
Reboard the ferry to discover the westernmost village and Cinque Terre's beach town — Monterosso. The town is divided into two distinct parts — San Cristoforo Hill and the old maritime village protected by a rocky spur. Sample a glass of excellent local wine and a small slice of the region's specialty — delicious focaccia bread. Make the most of your free time (about 1 hour and 30 minutes) to explore independently.
Please note: Transportation is by public ferry service that is not exclusive to Seabourn guests. Tour operates weather and sea conditions permitting; in the event of inclement weather, the tour operator reserves the right to cancel or alter the tour. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, and steps. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Cinque Terre is a popular destination; expect crowding in the villages. You will likely encounter a long line while waiting to board the boat; boarding is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. Headsets missing after the tour incur a fee. There is no boat service in November and December; the tour operates by bus and train. Participants must bring photo ID on tour.
