Begin your tour with a drive to Butrint, one of the many ancient Greek colonies on the Illyrian coast that later became a key city in the Roman Empire.
Visit the Butrint Archaeological Park -- once an important Greco-Roman port city and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, visitors can wander among the ruins of one of the great cities of the Ancient World.
Inhabited continuously from the 7th century BC until it was abandoned in the 18th century, Butrint's excavated remains are early Greek and Roman. The circular baptistery from the 6th century AD is paved with fine mosaics. However, archaeological excavations show that Butrint was important to the Chelonians.
After the sightseeing of Butrint, you will continue the tour with a scenic drive to the Mesopotamian Monastery. Although the interior of the monastery is still under reconstruction, having begun several years ago, a brief stop will be made to allow you to view the exterior. Capture photos of this fine example of a Byzantine Fortified Monastery, built in the 12th century. The church was reconstructed in the 17th and 18th centuries and is named Saint Nicolas Church.
Continue to the restaurant where you will have the opportunity to taste a lunch featuring the local delicacies.
Re-board your coach for the return trip to Sarande.
