The small village of Djúpivogur is surrounded by immense scenery — mountains, glaciers, strange lava formations, moss-covered cliffs, and deep valleys.
This tour offers a detailed walking tour ideal for those interested in nature, local culture, history, and wildlife.
Follow your guide to the Bóndavarða Cache — a pile of rocks that is similar to a cairn, carefully assembled by one person or a party to mark a path for others during the cold, dark winters. Bóndavarða offers a fantastic view of the village and the surrounding area.
Búlandstindur mountain dominates the vista with its pyramidal basaltic strata. In mythology, this was a mystical power center. Your guide will explain this.
Head down to Breidivogur and Fyluvogur — two small lakes — where a bird-watching hide is the perfect place from which to take in the scenery. Keep an eye out for the various bird species, many of which are waders.
Please note: Tour requires reasonably easy walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, slight inclines, gravel and grass. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Tour operates rain or shine but may be canceled by the operator in the event of extreme weather or unsuitable conditions. Restrooms are not available on tour.
