Discover the beautifully restored Rosebank Distillery on the banks of the Forth & Clyde Canal. On the Reawakening tour, learn about the painstaking process of bringing this phoenix-like historic whisky brand back to life in the 21st century — decades after its original decline and demise.
The stillhouse is an incredible piece of architecture that melds brand-new design with the structure of the old brick distillery. Expert guides explain the triple-distillation process that gives Rosebank whisky its signature smooth, floral character. In the tasting room, raise a glass to Rosebank's return with samples of two beautiful single malts from the sister distilleries.
Enjoy a light lunch at one of Stirlingshire's finest Country Houses — Callender House.
Next, experience the world's only rotating boat lift. The Falkirk Wheel is Scotland's most exciting example of modern engineering, heralding the dawn of Britain's new Canal Age. It was built to replace a staircase of eleven locks that connected the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Union Canal. After the Industrial Revolution, these locks fell into disrepair and were closed, leaving Scotland's two lowland canals disconnected. The amazing Falkirk Wheel boat elevator was designed to reconnect the two canals both efficiently and beautifully. Its role may be simple, but its shape is far from conventional — it is an eye-catching, working sculpture.
Embark a simple barge-like canal boat to experience a journey up the boat elevator and through a tunnel underneath the Antonine Wall, built by the Romans in AD 142. Upon your return, the canal literally ends in mid-air, but your boat is gently lowered to the next level by the Falkirk Wheel.
Please note: Tour requires up to two hours of walking and standing. Wear comfortable walking shoes. The canal barge features uncushioned, flip-down plastic seating in a 3-3 configuration. A seat for each person is guaranteed; however, specific seats cannot be pre-reserved, and seating together for your party, while likely, cannot be assured. The canal barge is not exclusive to Holland America Line guests.
