Leave the charming fishing village of Grundarfjörður and head east along Route F570 toward Jökulháls. Before you venture into Iceland's rugged highlands. The route takes you through Arnarstapi — a historic coastal settlement known for its dramatic basalt formations and sheltered harbor. Pause here to stretch your legs and breathe in the crisp Arctic air.
From Arnarstapi, the landscape is bisected by Route 574 — the Glacier Road — climbing steadily towards Eysteinsdalur. The scenery morphs with every mile, revealing Iceland's raw volcanic terrain as you approach the edge of one of its ancient ice caps. Cross the pass for eye-popping views on all sides.
You'll arrive at Stuðlagil for a photo stop. Notice the striking contrast between dark volcanic rock and milky glacial water — a sight that perfectly encapsulates the elemental forces that shaped this land. Continue your journey to Ólafsvík and back to the pier.
Please note: Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation. Stops (if any) are brief, and participants can remain on the transportation. Participants must be able to climb a few steps unassisted to board the transportation. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf.
