Journey through the heart of Welsh history on this full-day excursion to two of North Wales’ most iconic landmarks—Caernarfon Castle and Conwy Castle, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Your scenic drive begins across Anglesey and over the Menai Strait, leading to Caernarfon, where the imposing castle dominates the walled town at the mouth of the Seiont River. Built in 1283 by King Edward I, its polygonal towers, color-banded masonry, and intimidating battlements were designed to symbolize imperial power and echo the grandeur of Constantinople. Caernarfon’s historic significance is unmatched—it was here that Edward’s son was born as the first Prince of Wales, and centuries later, King Charles III was invested as Prince of Wales in 1969.
Explore the castle’s magnificent ruins with your guide, and enjoy free time to wander the town or visit the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, housed within two of the castle’s towers. Afterward, savor a traditional Welsh lunch at a local restaurant before continuing along the scenic coastline to Conwy, a beautifully preserved medieval town.
Conwy Castle, perched high above the estuary against the backdrop of Snowdonia, is one of the finest examples of 13th-century military architecture. Built as part of Edward I’s “Iron Ring” of fortresses, its eight massive towers and curtain walls remain remarkably intact. Inside, discover the great hall, royal chambers, and chapel, and climb the towers for breathtaking views of the Welsh coastline.
After your guided tour, enjoy free time to explore Conwy’s charming streets or walk along its medieval town walls, nearly one mile long and punctuated by 21 towers. Highlights include Plas Mawr, an Elizabethan townhouse, and the famous Quay House, Britain’s smallest house. Your return journey crosses the modern Conwy Bridge, completing a day steeped in history and scenic beauty.
