A three-hour cruise on a traditional wooden fishing boat introduces you to the magnificent nature and wildlife of Skjálfandi Bay -- a chance to observe whales and dolphins, and puffins and other seabirds in their natural habitat. The boat has been carefully restored and adapted to its new role without compromising its original character.
You will circle around Lundey Island -- home to about 200,000 puffins during their breeding season. Watch for massive flocks of puffins and other birds nesting on the shore.
Husavík is one of the best places in the world to see the minke whale. Normally quite timid creatures, here they've been known to approach boats and surface right alongside. Whales often appear to take as much interest in humans as we do in them. Boisterous white-beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises frequently show up, and sometimes humpback and other large whales are spotted also.
Please note: Views are weather permitting. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. There is a walk of 400 - 800 yards each way to the whale watching boat. Stepping onto the boat can be slippery and flooring on boat can be slippery. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. It is essential that you wear very warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf.
