This delightful full-day tour provides you with the perfect opportunity to fully experience the many facets of the region. A panoramic drive takes you through La Rochelle and inland along the Charente River, past world-famous vineyards of Cognac and ancient towns studded with Romanesque treasures.
Situated on the banks of the Charente River, the picturesque town of Saintes has many historical points of interest. You will enjoy a drive through the city, viewing the Romanesque St Eutrope Church with its 12th-century crypt, the first-century Roman amphitheater, the stately Triumphal Arch, and the 19th-century Abbey aux Dames. Take advantage of some free time to explore on your own.
Continue to Cognac, where you are treated to lunch at a local restaurant.
Just a short transfer away is the Royal Chateau of Cognac, where King Francis I was born. View the cellars and discover the nuances of making fine brandy with a guided tasting of Baron Otard VOSP and XO Gold, combining the finesse of fruity aromas, a hint of honey and a touch of violet.
Finally, you will reboard your coach for the 90-minute drive back to La Rochelle and the ship.
