Delve into the captivating world of crime-solving with DCI Vera Stanhope, the no-nonsense character created by Ann Cleeves, known for her brilliant detective work and trademark hat and raincoat.
The award-winning crime TV series Vera is set and filmed in and around Newcastle in the North East of England, and has attracted a following of crime fans from all over the world. The filming locations chosen for the Vera drama are scenic and very typical of the North East. Coastal towns such as Tynemouth and Whitley Bay often feature in Vera’s investigations.
This Vera tour, led by a specialist guide, includes many of the filming locations of crime scenes and other familiar places frequented by Vera and her colleagues throughout the series.
Departing the port, see filming locations in North Shields and Tynemouth before continuing to Whitley Bay, where refreshments are served at the Rendezvous Café. This iconic café has featured several times in the Vera series, where Vera has refuelled on her less-than-healthy choice of snacks. Travelling further north along the coast, explore Seaton Sluice, another filming location, along with Seaton Delaval Hall, which has appeared in multiple episodes of Vera.
Filming locations in Newcastle city are also included, with many places recognisable to avid Vera fans.
There will be opportunities for photo stops at filming locations, along with stories shared first-hand about Brenda Blethyn, her fellow cast members, and the film crew. Learn about the challenges of filming in the North East of England and the humour shared by the teams.
