The fields around Vallanes have been shaped by the planting of over 1,000,000 trees, some of which make shelterbelts that protect the growing crops. Vallanes is known for the application of agroecology while cultivating organic vegetables and grain in cool, Nordic climate. It is the home of the Móðir Jörð food products which are made of 100% certified organic ingredients.
Visit one of the most northern places in the world where grain is cultivated. Farm owner Eymundur Magnusson started organic farming in 1985. He and his wife focus on further developing the farming of grains and vegetables in Iceland, and on producing products made from local, Icelandic ingredients, most of which are produced on the farm. Join a guided tour around this innovative organic farm and sample some of their delicious produce.
Continue your day of exploration at Vok Baths. Seize the opportunity and dip into the hot water and rejuvenate yourself in this wonderful spa, surrounded by stunning nature. During long arctic winters, the lake freezes over. However, some years ago, locals noticed that one part of the lake never froze. Upon inspection, they saw that hot water emerged from deep under the lake, causing melted ice holes in that one particular spot. In Icelandic, melted ice holes are called "Vok", hence the name of Vok Baths. Today, its purpose is not only to allow guests to enjoy some rejuvenation, but the hot springs also supply hot geothermal water to the local community.
Please note: The weather in Iceland is unpredictable. Wear sturdy footwear with a non-skid sole. Bring your bathing suit and towel. For hygiene purposes, it is required to shower with soap and water before entering any geothermal baths or pools. Shower facilities are gender divided but communal. Lockers are provided for storing personal items.
