From Svolvær, a panoramic drive leads to Henningsvær, a fishing village built across numerous little islands in a style highly typical of Lofoten. Artists, painters and sculptors have long been attracted to this area due to its colorful setting and extraordinary light conditions.
Visit Galleri Lofoten (Lofoten House). This fine gallery's first floor is divided into two sections —one exhibiting watercolors by Lars Lerin and the other exhibiting pictures and ceramic works by Her Majesty Queen Sonja.
Walk for a few minutes to Contemporary Art Gallery of Lofoten, set in an old caviar factory. The façade sign is a permanent installation piece by German artist Michael Sailstorfer. The gallery is an international venue for contemporary art, presenting visiting exhibitions.
Don't miss the Magic Ice Bar — virtual visit to the Arctic and an adventure both fantastic and far removed from everyday life. The interior is constructed of crystal-clear ice, and even the glasses are made of ice. Dramatically-lit sculptures and installations with colorful lighting enhance the ice-cold welcome and magical atmosphere.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf.
