In China, the four Buddhist Mountains are each believed to be dominated by a major Buddha. Mount Putuo is regarded as the sacred mountain of Guanyin and boasts a number of Buddhist temples. Commence your full-day excursion from pier and travel by air-conditioned motor coach before taking the ferry to Putuoshan Island.
Upon arrival at the island, you will transfer by shuttle bus to the Temple of Universal Benevolence -- the largest temple on the island.
After enjoying a vegetarian lunch at a garden hotel next to the temple, continue your tour to the Statue of Guanyin, the goddess of mercy, erected in 1997. It is visited and worshipped by millions of pilgrims annually. The bronze statue is 108 feet tall and weighs more than 70 tons.
Nearby is the Violet Bamboo Grove Buddhist Temple and the intriguing Cave of Tidal Sound. During a high tide and onshore wind, the waves surge in and make a thunderous noise, giving the cave its name. After exploring this Buddhist Kingdom on the Sea, take the ferry back to the pier and transfer back to the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
