Magnetic Island is more than just beautiful beaches—it’s a place of hidden wildlife, rich Indigenous heritage, and breathtaking landscapes. The Wild Magnetic: Coast to Coast Express is your chance to discover it all in one unforgettable journey, carefully timed and curated for cruise guests who want to make the most of their limited time ashore.
From the moment you step aboard our custom-built, all-terrain bus, you’ll enjoy a small-group experience (max 26 guests) designed for comfort, personal connection, and deeper discovery. We’ll take you off the typical tourist path and straight into the heart of Magnetic Island, traveling across rugged outback terrain, past secluded bays, and along stunning coastal roads with views that few visitors ever get to see.
Wildlife lovers will be in their element. With your guide’s trained eye leading the way, you’ll spot wild koalas in the treetops, resting in their natural eucalyptus habitat. The adventure continues with a visit to a little-known rock wallaby hotspot—these adorable, elusive creatures are some of the island’s most beloved locals, and you’ll have the rare chance to observe them up close in their natural environment. As we journey across the island, you’ll also be treated to sweeping panoramic views from elevated lookouts, with turquoise waters, quiet beaches, and dramatic headlands stretching in every direction.
But Magnetic Island’s magic isn’t just in its scenery—it’s also deeply rooted in its stories. Known to the Traditional Owners as Yunbenun, this island has been home to the Wulgurukaba people for thousands of years. Along the way, you’ll hear about their deep cultural connection to the land, learn about native bush tucker, and gain insight into how they thrived in this island paradise long before modern development. We’ll also explore Magnetic Island’s lesser-known role in World War II, visiting former military sites and coastal lookouts where artillery once guarded the gateway to Townsville.
Around midday, we’ll take a relaxing break at the SeaSalt Arcade, a beachfront hideaway home to the laid-back Lava Lava Café and the award-winning Maggie Brewery. Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious, locally inspired lunch from an exclusive menu created just for our tour guests—served with ocean views, island breezes, and a chilled-out atmosphere that perfectly captures the Magnetic Island lifestyle.
Our journey continues into the island’s rugged and rarely explored west coast, a remote region that reveals the raw, untouched beauty of ‘Maggie.’ This side of the island—where World Heritage landscapes meet the edge of the Coral Sea—is where we wrap up our adventure, taking a moment to reflect on the wild and wonderful contrasts of this truly unique destination.
