See San Juan old and new as you drive in air-conditioned comfort to Fort San Cristobal. This mainstay of the San Juan fortification system enabled the Spaniards to successfully defend their territory against British and Dutch attacks, as well as their treasure against the pirates and privateers that once terrorized the Spanish Main. Visit the dungeon, where centuries-old graffiti represents images of Spanish galleons.
A panoramic drive through the Old Town is a chance to glimpse the beautiful 17th-century Spanish ironwork that decorates many of the restored homes. Note the blue-black glazed cobblestones used to pave the narrow streets of San Juan.
Armed with a map of Old San Juan, you will have some free time to explore the interesting shops, boutiques and art galleries that populate the streetscapes.
Transfer to the airport, passing through the New San Juan area en route.
