The city of Kristiansand evokes a nostalgic atmosphere, with small white cottages and a rectangular street pattern. It is set between the harbor on two sides and the Otra River on the third side.
You will first visit the Vest Agder Kristiansand Museum — one of the many open-air museums in Norway — to see a reconstructed city street and old farmhouses from the Setesdal Valley.
In the village of Søgne, watch for productive farms and breathtaking views of the sea. Stop briefly to visit Høllen — previously a shipping port for timber that was floated down the river.
Nowadays, it's a charming marina where the River Søgne meets the sea.
Follow the winding coastal road back towards Kristiansand, passing small fishing villages and vacation homes.
You will drive past the old fortress of Christiansholm, built in 1672, and many delightful old houses typical of southern Norway, before heading back to the ship.
