See Plymouth on foot today with an expert local guide. Plymouth is the place where the Pilgrims set sail aboard the Mayflower for the New World, and Sir Francis Drake sailed to defeat the Spanish Armada. Its strategic position and large natural harbor have made Plymouth a traditional stronghold for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, and evidence of history can be seen at every glance.
Walk up to Plymouth Hoe, where Drake was famously playing bowls when he received news of the invading Armada. "We have time to finish the game," he is reported to have said. From here, enjoy fine panoramic views of the area and out to sea.
Visit the Plymouth Gin Distillery — the oldest distillery in England, operating since 1793. Learn about the history of gin, including the distillation process, and join a tutored tasting of Plymouth Gin. A complimentary gin and tonic is served in the distillery's own bar.
Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.
Please note: This tour is conducted entirely on foot. Tour requires approximately one hour of walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, gravel, grass, and steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
