Take a leisurely guided walk through Vopnafjörður village, unveiling the area's past and present. Tales of Viking settlements, ancient sagas, and a peek into current Icelandic culture are all set against the backdrop of stunning fjord landscapes.
The village is built on a hill, so you'll stroll up and down some short slopes. Along the way, learn about life, past and present, in this little remote community of approximately 650 people.
Vopnafjörður was a major trading center for northeastern Iceland — a port-of-call for Danish trading ships.
Explore abandoned houses and listen to the stories linked to them. There's plenty of folklore about the village, which your local guide will share with you. Find out where the first settlement in the village was, and visit Vopnafjörður Church.
You'll pause for Icelandic refreshments before returning to the pier.
Please note: Tour requires walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, gravel, grass, and steps. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed.
