A scenic coach ride brings you to the idyllic town of Kuehlungsborn -- a seaside resort with a distinctive vacation atmosphere.
Here you will pause for a piece of cake and a cup of coffee before you board the 'Molli' -- a historic narrow-gauge steam train that has connected Bad Doberan and Kuehlungsborn since 1886, and is still in use today.
Puffing along at approximately 22 miles per hour, you will see Europe's longest avenue of linden trees, known as the 'green tunnel'.
You're passing by Heiligendamm (Germany's first seaside resort), where the G8 summit took place in 2007 on your way to Bad Doberan. Re-board your coach and visit Bad Doberan, the former summer residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg, packed with grand examples of Gothic redbrick architecture. Bad Doberan's cathedral is distinguished by its rural setting, rare among medieval churches, towering above the surrounding meadows and trees unencumbered by narrow urban streets. Unlike most town churches, it lacks the scale for comparison that neighboring houses usually afford. Built between 1294 and 1368, this awesome Gothic church makes Bad Doberan a popular destination for visitors.
Please note: The order of sights may vary to avoid congestion. Participants must negotiate five high steps to board the Molli train. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair; there is no space to store a wheelchair or scooter on the train. Walking is required; surfaces are slightly uneven and there are a few steps at the Bad Doberan Cathedral and several steps at the refreshment venue. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour operates rain or shine, but may be cancelled by the operator in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. Bring euros (€), as most shops do not accept US currency or credit cards for small purchases. Use of public restroom facilities costs 50 cents - €1 cash. Shops are closed on Sundays and bank holidays; a few souvenir shops may be open.
