Relax and enjoy this excellent overview of Montevideo's monuments, parks and gardens. The main points of interest you'll see from the coach are the Old City, with its famous Solis Theatre, and the Independence Square with its monument and mausoleum dedicated to national hero, Jose Gervasio Artigas. Facing the square is Government House and the nearby main commercial 18 de Julio Avenue lined with shops, cafés and office buildings.
Your guide will point out the Congress Building (no inside visit) -- the pride of Uruguay -- built between 1908 and 1925.
Then head to the Mercado Agricola, a renovated market hall that functions nowadays as a farmer's market. It offers a great insight into the culinary customs of Uruguay. Mingle with the locals here.
Watch for Batlle y Ordoñez Park, the Obelisk, and the famous Centenario Soccer Stadium, and stop at Plaza Virgilio to see the monument dedicated to the Fallen Soldiers of the Navy.
Take in the excellent view of the city as you return to the ship along the coastline.
