Exciting, exhilarating, memorable -- welcome to Expedition Experiences by Seabourn. Zodiac, kayaking or hiking activities enable you to experience the wonders of nature up close; in-depth cultural, ethnographic and archaeological discoveries connect you to the human and natural history of Seabourn's world. Each Expedition is expertly planned, professionally operated, and escorted by skilled expedition staff
Cross Sound is one northern gateway to Alaska's Inside Passage and, thus, is home to an abundance of marine wildlife. Steller sea lions, horned and tufted puffins, sea otters, harbor seals, bald eagles and other birdlife all call the waters around the Inian Islands home. Migratory humpback whales pass through here on their annual trek between Alaska and the South Pacific. Kayaking in this environment allows you to get close to this wildlife-rich area and its biologically diverse waters.
Please note: A Zodiac follows the kayaks to lend assistance as required. All sea kayaks are doubles. (Dis)embarking the kayaks may take place from the ship, from the beach, or from the Zodiac. Although sometimes perceived as a passive and relaxing sport, kayaking comes with inherent physical challenges and is therefore advisable only for those in good health. Previous kayaking experience is not required. All kayak gear is provided, including pogie gloves, rain pants, and flotation device. Dress warmly in layers for the day; a waterproof outer layer is provided in the form of the complimentary Seabourn rain jacket and a pair of rain pants to be borrowed for the excursion. Bring a hat or beanie, wear sunglasses and biodegradable sunscreen. A dry bag is provided for devices. Minimum height is 5 feet (1.5 m). Maximum weight per kayak (two persons) is 617 lbs (280 kg). Tour generally operates rain or shine but may be cancelled in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. Minimum age is 10 years. Leave all valuables, including rings, watches, bracelets and earrings, in a safe on board the ship. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
