The Expedition team leads this Zodiac cruise around Nunavut Province's Resolution Island. Sighted by Captain Martin Frobisher in the summer of 1576 and later named by Sir Thomas Button, the island is uninhabited. However, its rugged terrain makes it the perfect haul-out for walruses and seals intending to languish on its shoreline. During the migratory season, long-range frequent fliers in the form of Arctic seabirds transit here — a short respite from hundreds of hours airborne.
In the 1950s, Resolution Island was incorporated into the DEW Line and was home to a US military installation. Stark, distant and beautiful, it remains best known for its startling geology and its abundance of travel-weary wildlife.
Please note: Included Expeditions cannot be booked in advance. The ship's Expedition team will communicate finalized content and departure information. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Life jackets are provided and must be worn. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
