This is a special evening out, introducing the cultural charms of Kanazawa over a delicious dinner accompanied by a performance by the Kanazawa Geigi — the geisha of Kanazawa. Transfer from the ship to a traditional dinner venue, where you will enjoy a Japanese meal prepared with abundant seasonal ingredients from the Hokuriku region. Kanazawa’s geigi culture flourished during the Edo Period, when the city prospered as the seat of the Kaga Domain, one of the wealthiest in Japan. The refined entertainment culture developed especially in the teahouse districts — most notably Higashi Chaya-gai, Nishi Chaya-gai, and Kazue-machi. In this elegant world, geigi enchanted guests with their exquisite kimono, graceful movements, and artistic performances including singing, dancing, and playing traditional instruments, enriching banquets with a truly special atmosphere. Although the number of geigi decreased after World War II, Kanazawa’s teahouse culture has been carefully preserved. Today it is recognized as an important cultural heritage of the city, offering a rare glimpse into Japan’s traditional performing arts. While savoring your dinner, sit back and enjoy the graceful and captivating performance by the Kanazawa Geigi. Allow yourself to be charmed by one of Japan’s most refined cultural traditions.
