The sky's the limit on this rare opportunity to visit the Owls Head Transportation Museum — home to a landmark collection of antique aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, carriages, bicycles and engines.
View a replica of the Wright Brothers Kitty Hawk Flyer as well as many other vintage airplanes and cars. Much of this fine collection is maintained in operating condition and routinely flown and demonstrated. Explore the evolution of wing and wheel, from gliders to World War I fighters, including the Red Baron's famous red Fokker triplane.
Relive the advancement from horse-drawn carriage to the motorized mechanical antecedents of today's automobiles and airplanes.
A scenic drive brings you to the nearby Owls Head Lighthouse, commissioned by President John Quincy Adams in 1825. Take in Maine's beautiful rocky coastline — once the "highway" for the growing lime trade and shipping traffic from Rockland Harbor. Set out on a 10-minute walk to the base of the lighthouse for a closer look before heading back to the pier in Rockland.
