Jerez de la Frontera dates from Phoenician times but first rose to prominence under the Moors, who called it Xerix or Sherrich de la Frontera. Just 30 miles (50 km) from Cádiz, Jerez's milder climate makes it perfect for cultivating the grapes that produce the three main sherry varieties.
El Majuelo Vineyard is situated in the heart of the Sherry region and boasts a medieval watchtower. Beautiful views encompass rows of Palomino grapes used to make the famous Harvey's Sherry Wine and Fundador Brandy de Jerez. Learn about the various characteristics of these vines.
You'll also visit Virrey Laserna Palace, located in the heart of the historic city center. Known as the Palace of the Conde de los Andes, it has been passed down through generations since Alfonso X's conquest of Jerez in 1264. The beautiful neo-Classical-style palace features exquisite interior decoration and a lovely garden.
You will visit famous local wine cellars and learn about the time-honored blending process that produces quality sherry. Afterward, a tasting of different types of sherry is followed by a delicious lunch in the cellars.
