The small fishing village of Skagen is Denmark's northernmost town and is a very popular vacation destination. In the bustling fishing harbor, take time to absorb the charm of the village.
The red and white wooden warehouses along the waterfront have been converted into seafood restaurants, and traditional wooden fishing boats bob merrily in the harbor.
A short scenic panoramic drive takes you through Skagen en route to the Skagen Odde Naturcenter, beautifully situated in the protected landscape of Grenen at the tip of Denmark. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon of Sydney Opera House fame, the museum houses various exhibits. One focuses on wind, sea and sand — the three elements that formed this region 10,000 years ago, after the last Ice Age. Another illustrates the works of Jørn Utzonand, and the last one exhibits Danish contemporary art.
Reboard your motorcoach and enjoy a scenic drive toward Grenen. Walk up to the viewpoint and photograph the tip of Denmark. You may choose to stay in the area below the point and visit the small shop.
Transfer to Pakhuset — a traditional fisherman's warehouse dating back to 1913. Here, you'll discover one of Skagen's most iconic foods — Skagen fishcakes. This old and very secret recipe includes fishcakes served the Skagen way with pickled mayo, lingonberries, and rye bread. View an impressive collection of figureheads before you return to the pier.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
