The NATUWA Sanctuary is a conservation facility that educates others in its mission to save and protect endangered wildlife species from extinction.
Headquartered in Aranjuez de Puntarenas, NATUWA works with sloths, jaguars, tapirs, macaws and a wide variety of threatened native fauna in Costa Rica, and their fragile habitats.
Your visit to NATUWA consists of a very easy walk between various observation stations. Learn about the animal species that inhabit the sanctuary, such as sloths, jaguars, tapirs, monkeys, scarlet macaws, and great green macaws. A local expert explains the habits of these charismatic animals.
The sanctuary features areas where animals go about their lives in the most natural environment possible, surrounded by native trees.
Under the direction of a team of wildlife management specialists directed by the Ministry of Environment & Energy of Costa Rica (MINAE), the sanctuary is considered a conservation tool to meet the needs of many orphaned animals.
Enjoy a snack of fruit and a beverage before heading back to the ship.
