Take a shuttle bus for a short 10-minute ride to the start of a hiking trail. This two-mile hike starts on a gravel path that leads to a boardwalk and stairs. As you walk uphill, your local guide points out local plants and shares the history of this wilderness area.
From the top of the hill, take in the beautiful view of Wrangell and of Zimovia Strait.
The route honors John Muir — the influential naturalist and preservationist who built a bonfire and wowed the Tlingit people of Wrangell.
At the end of the hike, your guide accompanies you, on foot, back to the ship.
Please note: Dress in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Bring bottled water. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, etc) cannot be accommodated on the transportation. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, steep inclines, boardwalks, gravel, grass, roots, rocks, and many steps.
