On this unforgettable excursion, you’ll experience everything from a UNESCO World Heritage Site to a walled town, a local market and stunning views from a tall tower. If you’re looking to see some of Yeosu’s favorite destinations, this excursion is for you.
First you’ll take a guided tour of Seonamsa Temple, a beautiful temple located at the east end of Jogyesan Mountain. Nestled within a lush forest of diverse trees, at the front of the temple is an arched stone bridge named Seungseongyo Bridge, which is supported by natural bedrocks. In front of the main hall, Daeungjeon Hall, are two three-story stone pagodas that grab visitors' attention. Not only is Seonamsa Temple home to many of the country's pristine treasures and artifacts, it is also one of the few temples that preserve the traditional temple culture even as of today. Seonamsa Temple is beautiful throughout the year, but it is especially inviting in spring and fall when the flowers start to bloom and tree leaves change color.
Next you’ll head to the Nagan Folk Village, which remains the best preserved of the walled fortress towns of the Chosun period (1392 - 1910). The town was often plundered by Japanese pirates during the late Koryo period, so an earthen wall was constructed in 1397. According to records, villagers replaced the earthen wall with a stone one in 1424. The walls are 1.4 meters high, and gates offer entry on the east, west, and south sides. Four protruding battlements offer defense against invaders.
Continue along to a traditional local Yeosu market, which sells an assortment of seafood, vegetables, and other products. The sellers are all incredibly friendly, offering you a taste of their products. Aside from raw ingredients, the market also has clothing, porcelain, traditional stamp and even shoe stalls. It is the perfect place to experience traditional market life.
Finally, stop at the magnificent Yeosu Sky Tower, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the glittering coastline, islands, and the azure waters of the South Sea. Following the Daejeon Expo in 1993, the Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea was the nation’s second expo to be recognized by the Bureau of International Exhibitions. The expo’s seaside Yeosu City venue highlights the focus of the expo: the ocean and its value as a natural resource. The Sky Tower was the highest structure at the Expo site (73 meters high). Created from a pair of abandoned silos, it will be left permanently at the Expo site as a cultural landmark of the Yeosu Expo.
