Today you'll visit the village of Havre-Aubert, which is centered on a natural fishing and yachting harbor with a modern fish-processing plant. It is a member of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Québec.
The style of architecture in Havre-Aubert reflects the first settlement here by the Acadians (descendants of 17th-century French colonists). One excellent example of this is La Vernière — the second-largest wooden church in North America (1876). Struck by lightning several times, the church has been reconstructed with wood salvaged from shipwrecks that had to be blessed prior to use.
Next, visit the Atelier Cotier — a one-of-a-kind studio where sand from the islands is transformed into fascinating sculptures.
Then proceed to La Grave —a favorite spot for fishing and trading that maintains its maritime character to this day. You'll discover that there's plenty to do here — you can meet artists and craftspeople, visit the salt works, or absorb the area's history in the Musée de la Mer.
To conclude your tour, you might like to relax at the café, in the pub or on the terrace (at your own expense), perhaps followed by a walk along the promenade as you stop to chat with the friendly locals.
