Explore the capital city of Willemstad like a local on an electric bicycle, traveling the vibrant streets of the Punda, Scharloo, and Pietermaai neighborhoods. These streets are rarely seen by tourists, making the off-the-beaten path nature of the journey all the more special as you make your way through the colorful waterfront and take in the sights.
The people of the Netherlands established a trading settlement at a fine natural harbour on the Caribbean island of Curaçao in 1634. The town developed continuously over the following centuries. The modern town consists of several distinct historic districts whose architecture reflects not only European urban-planning concepts but also styles from the Netherlands and from the Spanish and Portuguese colonial towns with which Willemstad engaged in trade.
After cycling around, you’ll walk with your guide over the Queen Emma Bridge – a floating bridge that connects both sides of the capital – and get a unique vantage point to admire the lively Punda district and the stunning waterfront views. From here you’ll also pass many historical monuments.
In the downtown core, you'll bike past the colorful merchant houses on the quay, explore Fort Amsterdam and Pietermaai Cathedral. Along the way, admire the Curaçao National Archive housed in the "wedding cake house" and view murals by famous local artists such as Francis Sling before you bike back to the ship from the flamboyant neighborhood of Pietermaai.
Please note: Minimum age is 12 years. Participants must be in good physical condition. Minimum height is 5'2" (63 inches). Not suitable for guests with balance or dexterity concerns. You must be able to ride a bike for about nine miles.
