Visit Danish Renaissance Frederiksborg Castle and the seaside town of Elsinore for a guided tour on the grounds of the renowned Kronborg Castle.
Your first stop on this day of discovery is at Frederiksborg Castle, a fine example of Danish Renaissance architecture and considered by many to be the most magnificent castle in Denmark. Originally built in the early 17th century by King Christian IV, this splendid castle now serves as the Danish National Museum of History. Visit its chapel, which contains the oldest working organ in the world. Explore the opulent state rooms, lavishly decorated with period paintings and furniture.
Continue your journey to the charming village of Fredensborg, where you will have the opportunity to photograph the outside of Fredensborg Palace, the royal family's summer residence.
At a local inn, enjoy a typical Danish lunch and experience Danish hygge at its best. What is this? Your guide will attempt to explain a concept that is quite esoteric.
After lunch, continue northeast to the seaside town of Elsinore for a guided tour around the moats and ramparts (exterior only) of the renowned Kronborg Castle, made famous as the castle in Shakespeare's play Hamlet. For centuries, it has been one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe.
Return to the pier after a scenic 70-minute drive along the Riviera overlooking the strait to Sweden. The road is lined with quaint villages and impressive manor homes on one side and a lovely view of the Øresund Sound and the Swedish coastline on the other.
