Discover the local highlights and learn about the fascinating history of this picturesque town with an easy stroll around Siglufjörður.
Siglufjörður was, throughout most of Iceland’s history a remote settlement with a strong tradition of shark fishing. People here were long at the mercy of the elements, on land and sea and life did not change much as the centuries passed. In the 1900s, this all changed. Siglufjörður experienced huge growth and became one of Iceland’s most significant herring fishing towns. Let us recreate with you through stories during a leisurely guided walk, whilst also sharing the modern-day highlights and attractions of this charming town.
After your stroll it is time to head to Segull 67 Brewery, a small family-owned craft brewery located in town. The brew house is in an old fish factory. Segull means magnet in Icelandic and connects to the magnet needle (magnetic north) in the compass. The magnetic needle always turns north no matter where you are. 67 has long been a lucky number in the family, the owner’s great grandfather drove his truck with the number F67 and his grandfather sailed the seas with the boat number SI67. During your visit, you’ll learn about this small family-run brewery and get to explore the brewery itself ‘behind the scenes’ and taste their products.
Please note: There is around 1 hour of walking required. Minimum age to drink alcohol is 18 years, with a companion aged 21 years or older.
