Depart the pier for the approximately 50-minute drive to the beautiful and scenic resort area of Jungmun. Upon arrival, you’ll visit the Yeomiji Botanic Garden and Observatory Tower. Yeomiji is thought to be Asia’s largest botanic garden. Its indoor garden contains approximately 2,000 rare tropical and subtropical plants, including flowers, water lilies, jungle, subtropical fruits, cactus, and succulent gardens. The outdoor garden houses the Jeju Native Garden, as well as Korean, Japanese, Italian, and French folk gardens.
Travel up to the 125-foot Observatory Tower in the middle of the garden to see the entire arboretum. On a clear day, you can also see the Jungmun Tourist Complex, Ch’eonjeyeon Falls, Mt Hallasan, the nearby coast and Marado Island.
Next, you’ll travel to Ch’eonjeyeon, the area’s most picturesque waterfall. This three-tier waterfall cascades initially from a 72-foot cliff into the Ch’eonjeyeon Pond, which in turn is about 70 feet deep. From there, the water falls another 100 feet before its final drop into the ocean. There is an arched bridge above the pond, with the figures of seven maidens sculpted on it.
Following your visit, enjoy lunch at an area hotel.
After lunch, travel to Jusangjeolli. This pillared rock formation along the coast is a designated cultural monument of Jeju Island. Jusangjeolli was formed when the lava from Mt Hallasan flowed down to the Jungmun Sea. The rock pillars are shaped like cubes or hexagons of various sizes, and blowholes spout jets of water up to 33 feet tall during high tide. This intriguing spot is also famous for its 65-foot-high cliff.
Continue to Yakcheonsa Temple, thought to be Asia’s largest Buddhist temple. The main temple has one story below ground and five stories above, with a floor area of over 200 square yards and a ceiling height of 95 feet. The Main Hall has 18,000 Buddha statues, and receives many worshippers.
Your tour concludes with a one-hour drive back to the pier along the Mystery Road. Time permitting, you’ll stop briefly for shopping at the duty-free zone before returning to the ship.
