Embark on an unforgettable journey beneath the surface of Kona’s crystal-clear waters aboard the state-of-the-art Atlantis Submarine, one of the world’s most advanced passenger submarines. Your adventure begins at the Kailua-Kona pier, where you’ll board a shuttle boat for a scenic ride along the historic coastline of Kona. As you cruise past charming oceanfront views and volcanic landscapes, your guide will share insights into the region’s rich cultural and geological history.
Upon arrival at the Atlantis dive site, you’ll transfer to the submarine and begin your descent into a vibrant underwater world. The submarine gently dives to depths of over 100 feet, offering a rare opportunity to explore 25 acres of thriving coral reef gardens—a reef system formed more than 18,000 years ago by ancient lava flows. These reefs are home to an astonishing variety of marine life, including hundreds of species of tropical fish, colorful corals, and other fascinating sea creatures.
One of the highlights of the tour is a sunken shipwreck, now transformed into a living reef that attracts marine life and showcases the power of nature’s reclamation. This unique underwater ecosystem has been featured on National Geographic and other acclaimed programs, making it a must-see for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
Throughout the excursion, our knowledgeable and friendly crew will provide engaging commentary about the marine environment, local legends, and the ecological significance of the reef. The air-conditioned submarine accommodates guests, with comfortable seating and large viewports designed to maximize your viewing experience.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Wear clothing suitable for boat transfers and navigating the submarine ladder. Dive time is approximately 45 minutes. Guests must meet a minimum height requirement of 36 inches and be able to safely climb a nearly vertical, twelve-step ladder into and out of the submarine without assistance. Please note that a no-show fee will apply to any guest listed on the manifest who does not arrive for the tour. However, if there are same-day cancellations due to illness prior to the dive, no fee will be charged. While sightings of marine animals are common, they cannot be guaranteed, as many species are migratory and sightings vary by season and conditions.
