Drive through the island countryside to the capital city of Lefkada. You'll walk with your guide through the narrow streets, lined with traditional wooden houses. There are several small churches along the way, complete with intricate frescoes and icons.
Step inside the Byzantine Monastery of Faneromeni, which was renovated by the Venetians and features a lovely garden.
At the ancient ruins of Nikopolis, look out over the city from a vantage point. The city was a hub at the beginning of the Roman Empire — assorted temples, theaters, a forum, and other grand buildings once stood proudly here.
Visit the nearby and relatively modern town of Preveza. Walk with your guide through the beautiful Old Quarter and along the seafront. Enjoy a glass of ouzo or wine, served with a small plate of local snacks. Take some free time to further explore on your own before heading back to the ship.
Please note: Ancient Nikopolis is closed on Tuesdays; your guide will provide a full explanation of the site from a viewpoint instead. Wear comfortable walking shoes and light clothing.
