Ever wondered how and where truffles grow? There are only a few places on earth where truffles grow, and Slovenia is among them. This adventure is a fantastic opportunity to savor a genuine truffle-hunting experience led by knowledgeable truffle experts.
A panoramic drive brings you to the picturesque town of Izola for an excellent introduction to the region and a comprehensive history lesson. Upon arrival at the wine estate, meet the gorgeous truffle dogs and their master. The connection between them is one of a kind, and it is this interaction and collaboration that are key to a successful truffle hunt. The dogs are friendly and curious, using their olfactory sense to get acquainted. Head out on the hunt as the dogs guide the team — their skill and precision are most impressive.
Your tour will continue to a winery whose expansive vineyards march tirelessly across golden slopes punctuated by olive trees. An enthusiastic host will introduce you to the estate and production of different wine varietals. Winemaking holds a long tradition in Slovenian culture and remains a point of pride for the country. Enjoy the view as you sit down to taste a home-cooked lunch prepared by a private chef. A paired wine tasting accompanies each dish. The menu introduces regional flavors and traditional Mediterranean favorites.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
