Start your tour with a scenic 50- to 60-minute panoramic drive through the northern outskirts of Stockholm and through the countryside en route to Sigtuna. This idyllic small town is beautifully situated with Lake Mälaren on one side and age-old cultivated areas bearing countless traces of cultural traditions on the other.
Sigtuna was founded around AD 980 on the threshold of a new age, as the Viking era gave way to medieval times and Sweden was united as a single kingdom. Sigtuna became the first Christian town in Sweden. Many stone churches were built here, but only the ruins of three remain today. In the 13th century, Dominican friars built St Mary's — Sweden's earliest brick church.
Sigtuna boasts beautifully preserved its original town plan and great charm, with picturesque wooden houses, narrow alleys, and the smallest Town Hall in Scandinavia, dating from 1744.
Watch for the major points of interest, including one of the church ruins, the Town Hall, St Mary's Church and Stora Gatan — the oldest street in Sweden.
Enjoy the lovely view across Lake Mälaren before returning to Stockholm via an alternative countryside route.
