Join the Expedition team for a Zodiac cruise along the icy coastline of Philpots Island — a fantastic vantage point from which it view its moon-scape terrain and to potentially step ashore to explore on foot. The Expedition team has a wealth of knowledge to share on the geology and forces that have sculpted this extraordinary, remote landscape.
Philpots is a mere speck off the east coast of Devon Island in the Canadian High Arctic — officially one of the Queen Elizabeth Islands. It sports a curiously lunar surface, unsurprisingly uninhabited except by the most wind-tolerant birdlife. With the Devon Island ice sheet nearby, Philpots' waters are often ice-impacted, attracting herds of gorgeous walrus to lollygag in the chilly shallows. Clams, snails, worms, cucumbers, and tunicates offer themselves up for walrus dining here. We will spend time enjoying the views and seeking out wildlife.
Please note: Included Expeditions cannot be booked in advance. The ship's Expedition team will communicate finalized content and departure information. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Life jackets are provided and must be worn. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
