Nature lovers, history buffs, and inquisitive travelers alike will thrill to discover two of Toba's most intriguing sites.
You'll take a scenic route to the Ise-jingu Shrine complex. Home to 120 buildings, the most important are the Inner Shrine, known as Naiku, dedicated to the Sun Goddess, and Geku (the Outer Shrine), dedicated to the god of agriculture, rice harvest and industry. Dating back to the 7th century, the shrine buildings are made of solid cypress wood. No nails were used in their construction; instead, they are joined by wooden pegs. If you wish to make an offering, toss your coin into the alcove or offertory box and follow your guide's instructions for the protocol.
You'll travel along the Ise Shima Skyline to the Asamayama Observatory, atop 1,820-foot Mt Asama, and pause for photos of beautiful Ise Bay.
Enjoy a Japanese lunch at a local restaurant or hotel.
Visit Mikimoto Pearl Island — the birthplace of the cultured pearl. Learn about founder Kokichi Mikimoto during a tour of the museum, and follow the growth of a pearl from the moment the shell is surgically implanted to the time it's harvested. You may also catch Ama, traditional women divers in white outfits, in live action as they demonstrate how they dive into the sea to harvest pearl oysters. Enjoy time to browse in the gift shop .
