Walk with your guide to the Lake Butler Marina, which shelters today's modern fishing fleet. You're here to learn all about the export journey of southern rock lobster — the tasty crustacean for which the region is famous.
Your local National Trust guide leads you past fascinating heritage buildings in the heart of Robe, sharing stories of their occupants in the late 19th century. This period was the heyday of Port Robe, and its legacy includes Robe's first church, where Australia's only saint commissioned two nuns to establish and operate a school, as well as government administration buildings, cottages, and commercial buildings constructed by European immigrants. Robe expanded rapidly with the arrival of 17,000 Chinese miners from Hong Kong in 1857 and the burgeoning wool trade. Learn more at the Robe Visitor Center, where your tour ends.
Time permitting, guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.
Please note:
Tour requires 1½ hours of walking. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
