See the best of Fuerteventura -- second-largest of the Canary Islands and the island closest to Africa. From the port at Puerto del Rosario, you'll venture through the island's interior and along its famous beach-lined coast.
A panoramic drive brings you to the former colonial capital of Betancuria, named after the conqueror of Fuerteventura, John de Bethencourt. You'll visit the Casa Santa Maria Museum in Betancuria village for an audiovisual introduction to the flora and fauna of Fuerteventura.
Continue 55 minutes north to Corralejo. This picturesque resort and fishing village is where you will have some free time to browse in the local shops or simply relax and purchase refreshments at one of the local bars (at your own expense).
Fine sand and crystalline water make the beaches at Corralejo Nature Park some of the most beautiful in the archipelago. In a protected area, there are sand dunes -- a little slice of the Sahara Desert right here on Fuerteventura. Feel free to climb the dunes and have your camera ready for a photo stop to admire the offshore island of Lobos. It is separated from Fuerteventura by only a narrow strait, and its distinctive shape is that of a pronounced volcanic cone.
Please note: Tour requires a 550-yard walk from the coach parking to the museum. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines and steps. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
