Catch a glimpse of Fuerteventura's special multi-faceted charm on this island tour.
At the Aloe Vera Plantation, learn all about the succulent lily plant that is widely used in the cosmetic industry. Aloe vera is rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins and amino acids. Canarian farmers knew this long before aloe became a household word in North America. You will have the opportunity to buy aloe products for everything from sunburn relief to scalp and hair products, wrinkle serums, psoriasis treatments, acne, stretch marks, tired legs and body massage gels.
Proceed towards the former colonial capital of Betancuria, named after the conqueror of Fuerteventura, John de Bethencourt. Walk through the town and visit the Casa Santa Maria Museum -- a restored Canarian house. This museum has various areas to explore, including exhibits about the island's volcanic origins and its flora and fauna.
Learn about Majorera goats and their famous cheese and watch a large-screen audiovisual presentation with images from around the island.
Finally, pause at the Cheese Museum in Antigua, where you will discover the island through its rich cheese-making tradition. During the visit, you will have a chance to sample some of the goat's cheese yourself. The museum is also home to the original Antigua Windmill, still in perfect working condition.
And don't miss the cactus garden -- a green treasure with endemic species as well as other cacti from all over the world.
Throughout the day, your guide shares fun facts, figures and legends, bringing the island's history to life.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Tour requires a 550-yard walk from the coach parking to the museum. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, and steps.
